Parent Portal Introduction

Dear Parents/Guardians:
We are excited to announce that we are launching our new on-line SchoolTool Parent Portal for parents of Middle School-High School students.

This portal will be an invaluable tool enabling parents to connect with their child(ren)’s academic progress. Teachers will have the ability to post individual class assignments, quizzes, test, and their grades. The information available to you may vary from teacher to teacher depending upon the extent to which the teacher chooses to use the portal. Teachers will use the portal to post quarter, and semester grades at a minimum.   You will be able to see your child’s schedule, contacts, attendance, and discipline record along with any assignments or grades their teacher posts. We are hopeful that this new tool will assist parents in becoming more engaged in their children’s education and academic performance.

It is important to note that grades are only shown after teachers have finished entering them and have published them to the portal.  It is at the teacher’s discretion when those grades are published to the portal.  Certain assignments such as tests, projects, or long writing assignments take a great deal of time to grade.  Parents need to understand that just because an assignment was handed in today does not necessarily mean the grade will be posted on the same day.  While we encourage parents to be actively involved in their child’s education, we also caution parents calling or emailing a teacher to inquire as to when a particular assignment’s grade will be posted to the portal.  Requests of this nature take valuable time away from the teacher’s normal out of class responsibilities of grading, providing extra help and preparing for upcoming classes.  Concerns regarding grades should first be discussed between you and your child.  If questions still exist, please feel free to contact the teacher at school for further discussion.

In order to set up your portal access we ask that you complete the enclosed parent Portal Account Request and return it to the high school counseling office by September 1st.  Once your account is created, you will receive an automated email from SchoolTool with your password.  Also enclosed are the Instructions and Frequently Asked Questions, along with contact information.  We are also enclosing with this mailing a Revised School Calendar.

If you are a parent who participated in the pilot program last year you are already signed up and do not need to complete the form again.  Also students will be given accesses to the portal and will be instructed on how to accesses it during school.
Please note that an updated school calendar has also been included with this letter.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the Main Office or the Counseling Office. We will also be holding a Parent Portal assistance session on September 8th from 4:30pm to 6:00pm in the Libary computer lab for any parents having trouble logging on.

Sincerely
