Student Council

Welcome to the AuSable Valley Student Council website.  I would like to take the opportunity to invite anyone in grades 9-12 to join Student Council for the 2009-2010 school year.  Click here to download the student council contract for those interested in joining.  Please fill it out and bring it to Mr. Carter upon returning to school in the fall.  Student in grades 7 and 8 may elect to join our Junior Council in September by seeing Mr. Carter.

What is Student Council?
Student Council provides an opportunity for students to engage in a structured partnership with teachers, parents and school administration in the operation of their school.  It gives students an opportunity to acquire communication, planning and organizational skills which will benefit them in their future lives.  Student members take responsibility for various projects in the school and local communities.

Student Council Objectives:

­To enhance communication between students, administration, staff, and parents
­To promote an environment conducive to educational and personal development
­To promote friendship and respect among students
­To support the management and staff in the development of the school and school policy
­To represent the views of the students on matters of general concern
­To organize and participate in fund-raising efforts for local and national charities
­To assist in the induction of new students to the building and freshman
­To assist in sporting and cultural activities
 
What activities will Student Council participate in this year?
­In September we will hold an assembly welcoming our visiting Foreign Exchange Students to our  
  building and inviting them to share information about themselves, their culture, and their experiences  
  so far in the US. 

­October will bring us our Homecoming celebrations.  We coordinate all activities including the class
  competitions (dress, windows, posters, banners, and parade), pep rally, homecoming dance, CVPH
  Blood Drive on October 20th, Locks for Love Drive on October 22nd, food drive (to stock Keeseville
  and AuSable Food Shelves)     

­In November we will put together and donate Thanksgiving Baskets to individuals in the district.
 
­End of November until the Holiday break, we will sell Make-A-Wish Angels during lunch sets 

­On May 27th, we will hold our annual Car Wash
 
­End of May / beginning of June we will take part in an end of the year trip / activity

­Throughout the year everyone will attend at least 1 School Board Meeting

­ Throughout the year everyone will participate in updating the Student Council Bulletin Board and
  scrolling signs in the cafeteria

­And many other small things that will help to make our school a better place to learn
