Kindergarten Banker's Apple Orchard & Pray's Pumpkin PatchBanker's Orchards Trip

In this time of year, with the harvest season in full swing, Mrs. Gilbert’s Kindergarten Class has been learning many things about what is harvested in the fall.  From apples and corn to pumpkins and gourds, students have been able to see first-hand how these products are harvested.

All the Kindergarten classes at Keeseville Elementary School were able to take a trip to Banker’s Apple Orchard and enjoyed a wagon ride, the petting zoo, a picnic lunch, apple picking, and learning how to make apple cider.

Recently students were able to enjoy a field trip to Pray’s Pumpkin Patch as well. Children were able to take a ride to the pumpkin patch and pick out their very own pumpkin to take home.  In preparation for this trip, students (with a little help from the teachers) read books and learned about the life cycle of a pumpkin.

In the spirit of the season, and with Halloween approaching, Mrs. Gilbert’s students were able to make paper mache’ pumpkins.  They used newspaper strips and a mixture of paste to form a ball.  After it dried, students painted their pumpkin a bright orange.  Finally, they put on their felt nose, mouth, eyes and a leaf.  To complete the project students went on a nature hunt outside to look for and collect sticks to be the stems.  The pumpkins were displayed in the classroom window.  The children really enjoyed this fun project!
